1st Grade

Hi! My name is Kim Menning and I am the new 1st grade teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School. I grew up in Ft. Pierre, SD as the oldest of five children and am a graduate of Northern State University. I have been teaching for 24 years and my entire teaching career has been spent in Catholic education. My first job was at St. Anthony’s in Hoven. Then I taught at St. Mary’s in Dell Rapids and most recently at St. Mary’s in Salem. Catholic education is important to me because it establishes a real sense of community among parents, students, teachers, administrators and staff. As a school family we celebrate our successes and hold one another up in prayer when necessary.

When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my two rescue dogs, Oliver and Harper. I also love reading, crafting and watching musical theater productions. Some fun facts about me are that my favorite color is green, my favorite saint is St. Therese of Lisieux and my favorite dessert is tiramisu.

I am really looking forward to being a part of Holy Trinity Catholic School!

Meet Mrs. Honomichl- 4th Grade Teacher

RING! RING! The bell is ringing! Everyone is getting homework out for Mrs. Honomichl. Everyone is working now as Mrs. Honomichl is looking at Math papers, this is how our morning goes in 4th grade. Mrs. Honomichl has a family- a husband, Dan; a girl, Felicity, who is 17; and a boy, Jonah, who is 19. Her parents are from Plankinton and she has two brothers. She went to Dakota Wesleyan University for teaching. Mrs. Honomichl loves Holy Trinity Catholic School.

Mrs. Honomichl’s favorite part of teaching is helping kids find their potential; they can do more than they know. Mrs. Honomichl loves EXO teaching at Holy Trinity because we have buddies, and we all attend Mass together on Wednesdays. It feels like a family. Catholic education is important because, “I want to send kids into the world knowing they are loved just because they are made in God’s image, and they learn that at Catholic school,” Mrs. Honomichl says.

Mrs. Honomichl’s favorite food to eat is Mexican, and tacos are the best. Her favorite song is, “What a Wonderful World,” by Louis Armstrong. If Mrs. Honomichl were given 3 wishes, she would wish: 1. every student to feel loved and important, 2. enough money to buy all new books for Holy Trinity library, and 3. her children are happy for their whole lives. Her favorite saint is Saint Theresa of Calcutta because she was short but mighty, like Mrs. Honomichl. “The Legend of the Blue Bonnet,” is Mrs. Honomichl’s favorite legend.

Meet Ms. Iverson- Art & Library Teacher & Afterschool Program

There are 5 questions that I always ask Ms. Iverson when I go to the Art Room: 1. Ms. Iverson, where is the paper? 2. Can I do my dots now? 3. Where is the paint? 4. Can I go to the bathroom? 5. What are we doing? Ms. Iverson always works really hard to keep us on track and try to get stuff done on time. Ms. Iverson isn’t just an Art teacher, she is also a library teacher. Even though we are 4th graders, we are still asking her to help us find BOOKS, and she still helps us!

Ms. Iverson grew up in Wisconsin, has four brothers and one sister, and a mom and dad. She had a happy childhood and loved to play outside a lot and play games with her family. She has been the Art teacher at Holy Trinity for 11 years, and the Library and Afterschool Program teacher for five years.

Ms. Iverson’s favorite part of teaching is sharing her love of Art and books with kids. What Ms. Iverson loves most about HTCS is how this school feels like family, and the fact that we can talk and learn about God. Ms. Iverson thinks that Catholic education is important because, “It’s important to teach kids more about their faith and to help them as they grow older.”

Ms. Iverson’s favorite subject is Art and Literature. Her favorite food is pizza and chocolate. Ms. Iverson’s favorite author is Nicholas Sparks. Her favorite book is, “Jane Eyre,” because it’s about a girl who doesn’t have a family. Her favorite prayers are The Lord’s Prayer and The Prayers Before and After Meals.
I hope you like my story about Ms. Iverson, and I hope we can keep working hard for her!
