About Us
Welcome from Principal
Welcome to the Holy Trinity Catholic School website. We are very proud of our students, staff, and school! Our mission is to inspire children to lead Christian lives, strengthened by our Catholic faith, while cultivating academic excellence. Parents, faculty, and the staff of Holy Trinity Catholic School work together as a family to provide a caring, supportive environment where children experience the joy of learning.
Our school was established in November of 1929 and since that time has been named St. Teresa Parish School, St. Martin Parish School, and now Holy Trinity Catholic School. As an alumni and former teacher of St. Martin School I appreciate this long history of quality Catholic education serving Huron and the surrounding areas. I have heard many stories from alumni that remind me of the important role we play in the lives of students and families at our school.
(HTCS Principal)
Members of our dedicated and creative staff work together to provide excellent academic preparation adhering to the content standards of the South Dakota Department of Education and differentiating education to meet the unique needs of every learner. Students have the opporunity to participate in music, physical education, computer, library, and art classes.
Besides our academic program, students develop an understanding of the Catholic faith and worship by participating in a variety of liturgies: an all school weekly mass, special liturgies for holy and feast days, prayer services, and sacramental preparation. To practice their faith students engage in several service projects throughout the year. We are blessed by the opportunity to share our faith and infuse it into every class and every situation.
I consider it a privilege to serve as the principal of Holy Trinity Catholic School because it is a wonderful place to work and allows me to raise my family immersed in their faith. Please take some time to look around our website and contact me if you have any questions. You will quickly find that our school is one of my favorite topics of conversation! May God bless you!
Our Mission
Inspiring children to lead Christian lives, strengthened by our Catholic faith, while cultivating academic excellence.
Our Vision
In partnership with families, we strive to prepare our students to be faith-filled leaders and life-long learners dedicated to serving the Church and community.
History
The first Catholic school in Huron opened on November 12, 1929, and was named St. Teresa’s School. The opening enrollment was 192 elementary students in Grades 1-8, and were taught by eight Sisters of the Preserntation Order from Aberdeen. Since then, more than 100 Presentation Sisters have served the school as teachers or administrators.
Peak enrollment was reached in 1960 with 407 students. In 1961, a complete renovation and repair of the school was undertaken, and at that time the name of the school was changed to St. Martin’s Parish School. Kindergarten was added in the fall of 1979. A Preschool program for 3 and 4 year olds was started in 1984.
In 2004, a new parish life center was constructed to accommodate a new school and religious education center. This school is Holy Trinity Catholic School, and currently encompasses Preschool-5th Grade. Since opening in 1929, more than 15,000 children have benefited from the quality education which has been a tradition at Holy Trinity Catholic School and its predecessors, St. Teresa’s and St. Martin’s in Huron. We are grateful for the strong faith and sacrifice of those who have served and supported our school in the past, and we look forward with hope and confidence to the future.
School Advisory Council
The Holy Trinity Catholic School Advisory Council is an advisory group which assists the pastor and principal. It develops and recommends policies, recommends the school’s budget and tuition rates to the pastor, and helps to promote the school and its programs. The pastor retains the final decision-making responsibility on all Advisory Council recommendations.
The School Advisory council consists of seven lay people. The pastor and principal also serve on the Advisory Council, but are not voting members. A liaison from the HTCP Parish Council, Family, School Organization, and school faculty are also present at the meetings. Each spring, several new members are chosen to serve a three-year term. The board meets every month on the second Tuesday evening, and parents and parishioners are always welcome to attend.
